Having Trouble Finding an Assessment?

This will help you find an assessment if you cannot find it after following all the steps in the "Find an Assessment" lesson.

Where to Start

Where to Start

Be sure you have followed all the steps in the "Find an Assessment" lesson and be sure you know the correct criteria (e.g., is its type classified as a "Benchmark" or a "Quiz"?) by which to find it. If you still cannot find an assessment, here are possible reasons to help you troubleshoot.

Possibility 1: The Assessment's Information Is Incomplete

Possibility 1: The Assessment's Information Is Incomplete

Related Fact:

The filters are based on details entered for the assessment on the Information tab. For example, if you fail to enter any Grade Levels for the assessment when it is created or edited, then filtering by Grade 7 (even if the assessment is for Grade 7) will exclude the assessment from the list because no one has specifically indicated that the assessment is for that grade level.

Solution for Finding It:

Since you will not necessarily know what information is missing from the assessment, try to find your assessment a slower way, such as:

1. scrolling through the list of all assessments (with no filters used) until you spot it.

2. Clicking the up (˄) or down (˅) arrows next to any list column header to sort assessments by that criteria (e.g., if you know your assessment's title starts with the word "Diagnostic," sort your assessment list by title and then look where "Diagnostic" falls alphabetically).

3. using one filter at a time until it appears.

Solution for Fixing It:

Once you find and open your assessment, be sure to click on the Information tab, enter the correct information, and then click Save. This way you will have an easier time finding the assessment in the future. If someone else created the assessment and you do not have access to change it, be sure to notify the assessment's author (or anyone he or she has awarded permission to edit the assessment) of the problem so that he or she can fix it.

Possibility 2: You Do Not Have Access to View the Assessment

Related Fact:

When someone creates an assessment it is (by default) not shared with anyone else. That means no one else can see (under his or her own login in DnA) that the assessment exists. It is up to the author to share it with others if he or she wants to do so. If you are not the assessment's author and the author (or anyone he or she has awarded permission to share the assessment) has not indicated that you have permission to "View & Download" it, then you will not be able to see the assessment on your assessment list. For example, if the author gave you "Can Edit" permission but did not also select yes for the "Can View & Download" permission, then you will not be able to see the assessment on your assessment list.

Solution for Finding and Fixing It:

Notify the assessment's author (or anyone he or she has awarded permission to share the assessment) of the problem so that he or she can share the assessment with you. Be sure the author understands that he or she must select "Yes" for your "Can View & Download" permission. After that you should be able to find the assessment. See the "Find an Assessment" lesson for details.

Possibility 3: Illuminate Needs District Permission to Import Pre-Built Assessments

Possibility 3: Illuminate Needs District Permission to Import Pre-Built Assessments

Related Fact:

Illuminate has already built numerous assessments for you (see the "Assessments We Already Built for You" lesson for a complete list), but we don't want to overload your assessment list with all of them or overlook any District preferences regarding routing assessment requests through them.

Solution for Finding and Fixing It:

If you want assessments from this list and they have not already been shared with you, please have your District's Illuminate Project Manager (usually the Director of Data and Assessment or Director of Educational Technology) email us with the assessments' titles, indicating with whom we should share the assessments.
