Creating Rubric Based Assessments in Illuminate
Presenter: Danyelle Anthon, Buffalo School District
This presentation will focus on the rationale behind creating a rubric-based assessment. There are certain content areas that benefit greatly from administering an assessment that goes beyond a traditional multiple choice array of questions. Content areas such as vocal and instrumental music, physical education, or even English as a Second Language and Science lab classes may wish to give assessments that are built around a performance task that a student is responsible for completing. Areas like Art, Career and Technical Education, and Language Arts may wish to create assessments reflective of a portfolio of student work. We will discuss the rationale behind creating these types of assessments, best practices for administration and scoring, and overcoming obstacles and fostering teacher buy-in.
