Making Black and Latino Students’ Lives Really Matter in Schools: A 911 Call to Educators

Presenters: Gail Thompson, Fayetteville State University & Rufus Thompson, Illuminator

Description: Recent shootings of unarmed Black men in various U.S. cities have resulted in protests and renewed media attention, focusing on common anti-Black policing and criminal justice practices. However, the anti-Black and anti- “Brown” practices that occur in schools on a daily basis, continue to be ignored, minimized, and more important, continue to harm countless African American and Latino Pre-K through 12 students. This session will expose several detrimental school practices and provide educators with information and strategies to address these problems.
