i-Ready

Built for the Common Core, i-Ready combines a valid and reliable growth measure and individualized instruction.  i-Ready includes instructional lessons and diagnostic tests for K-12 to drive Response to Intervention.  The Diagnostic assessment measures student competency in all areas of Reading and Mathematics and delivers personalized instructional materials for teachers and students. Curriculum Associates is the company who has developed this product and it's content. The product works on using data to inform and drive instruction in the classroom and makes predictions on the performance on Common Core state mandated assessment.  Due to this fact many users like to see the results of diagnostic side by side which their common core assessment data to make comparisons and inferences.

Subjects

  • Reading (Grades K-12)
  • Mathematics (Grades K-12)

Administrations:

Diagnostic

i-Ready diagnostics tests can be taken any time and contain a diagnostic completion date for each occurrence.  There are multiple records for each student depending on how many diagnostics were taken.  These diagnostics are also adaptive which adjust the challenge of the questions as they are answered.  The diagnostic will state if the child is below, at, or above grade level.  To pull a unique record for a student you will need the student id and diagnostic completion date.  Records can also be grouped by academic year to display progress over the course of the year.

Instruction

i-Ready instruction records are unique per student id and academic year and contain the number of lessons taken and the result of those lessons.  Instruction is provided that is tailored to each individual needs based on their performance on the diagnostic exams.  Instructional lessons are also provided to teachers that support the content students are receiving.

Test Window

Each (beg / mid / end) testing window is configured by the individual district/school  so the testing window can vary.  This information is not included in the data extracted so we may need a way for our users to enter this information into Illuminate or provide it in a pre-built if specific window reporting is requested.

Placement Levels And Scale Scores and Other Measures

Diagnostic

In the Diagnostic portion of i-Ready "Overall Scale Scores" are provided for each diagnostic (Math/Reading) as well as a "Placement Level".  There are many placement levels and their cutoffs which are listed in this document.

Instruction

In the instructional component of i-Ready the number of lessons passed and failed are reported as well as the pass rate and total time spent on each domain.

Domains

The domains above are available for both Math and Reading for the i-Ready.

Schema

All diagnostic results for students are stored in the following tables:national_assessments.iready_diagnostic_reading, national_assessments.iready_diagnostic_math

All instructional results for students are stored in the following tables: national_assessments.iready_instruction_reading, national_assessments.iready_instruction_math

Please refer to the Domains section for specific field names for the domains. As mentioned in the beginning of this article to get a unique test (diagnostic) record for a student you will need to select a combination of student_id and a diagnostic completion date (diagnostic_completiondate) for diagnostic records. The instructional data is aggregated by academic year.  If you want to get all diagnostic records for a student just search on student_id. If you want all records for an academic year (academic_year) than filter on that as well.

Smarter Balanced Assessment and RIT Score Correlations - As you begin your instructional planning in anticipation of the 2016 Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortia (Smarter Balanced) summative assessments, your Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) data can be a huge help! We have resources now—and even more coming soon—that will help you: predict student performance on the next Smarter Balanced summative test set student growth goals between now and then track progress toward those goals with your fall, winter, and spring MAP administrations identify students who are at risk and adjust instructional strategies Northwest Evaluation Association™ (NWEA™) has been working since last year to give schools insight into how Smarter Balanced scores correspond to MAP performance—and how you can use that information to help your students.  Our complete linking study, in which we connect the scale of Smarter Balanced math and English language arts (ELA) tests with MAP math and reading assessments, will be released in December

Common Troubleshooting Questions

Q: I imported a .csv file using the NWEA 2015-2016 Web-based MAP (2011 OR 2015 Norms) dataset, but the status (on the State/Known Data Import Logs page) says "failed."  Why did it fail?

A: Download the file they used to import (save it as a .csv when you do this, it will automatically download as a .txt file if you do not) and open it in Excel (Data > Get External Data > Import Text File > choose your downloaded .csv).  Count the number of columns in the file that they used.  If they number of columns isn't 128 (it might be something like 136), then they may have downloaded a version of this assessment data that we don't support.  Currently, we only support the Assessment Results version of this file, which is 128 columns.  We do not support the Combined Assessment Results version (which is 136 columns).

You can see the two different versions as sheets in the Excel layout we have for this dataset here.

PSAT

PSAT 8/9 2015-2016

Summary

The PSAT 8/9 is a test that will helps teachers figure out what students need to work on most so that they're ready for college when they graduate from high school. It tests the same skills and knowledge as the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and PSAT 10- in a way that makes sense for the grade level.  This assessment replaces the ReadiStep assessment that was administered until the 2014-2015 academic year.
